ONE-BALL CROQUET
a traditional favorite for casual play
It's each player for himself in this simple and popular version of Backyard Croquet, also called "Cutthroat Croquet". With only one ball and one person to a side, any number up to six can play, following the sequence of colors on the stake: Blue/Red/Black/Yellow/Green/Orange.
All the other Basic Rules apply, including the layout of the course and the bonus strokes earned for hitting opponent balls and scoring wickets.
One-Ball Croquet is a simpler and faster game than Partner Ball Croquet. It's especially suitable for children or family outings, as it does not require complex strategic thinking. With up to six separate players contending, however, an individual's skill and intelligence do not always produce a predictable or just result; the game is therefore seldom used in formal competitions.
